From Shopping Addiction to Sustainable Connection 🌿

For most of my adult life, I’ve had what I can only describe as an addiction to shopping. I told myself it was harmless — after all, I was just treating myself, right? But in truth, I was trying to fill a hole of unhappiness with myself and my body.

As I got older, I spent more and more on clothes, hoping each new outfit would make me look slimmer, younger, or somehow “better”. I thought that if I just found the right dress or pair of jeans, I’d finally feel happy and confident. Instead, I ended up with growing debt, store cards, and three double wardrobes full of clothes… yet still felt like I had nothing to wear.

A while ago, I watched Stacey Solomon’s show about decluttering and it hit home. I realised that all those clothes weren’t bringing me joy — they were weighing me down. Most of them didn’t fit or suit me anymore, and every morning became a battle just to find something I felt comfortable in.

Two weeks ago, I finally decided to do something about it. I asked a friend to come over and help me sort through everything. Seven hours later, around 70% of my clothes were in a pile ready to go. It was exhausting, emotional, and freeing all at once.

Since then, I’ve been listing everything on Vinted to sell, and for the first time in years, my wardrobe only holds clothes that actually fit me and make me feel good. Getting dressed in the morning is simpler, calmer, and more positive — but this isn’t just about clothes.

As we age, our bodies change. Mine certainly has. I used to chase styles that no longer suit my shape, and that only made me feel worse. I’ve realised that unless we purposely pause to clear out, reflect, and dress for who we are now, we can easily fall into a cycle of buying more to fill an emotional gap.

That’s why I’m so excited to announce that WalkNTalk Women will be hosting our very first Shop Swap Event — a space for women to reconnect with themselves, their wardrobes, and each other.

This event will be much more than a clothes swap. It’s about sustainability, connection, and support. You’ll be able to:
👗 Bring along clothes and accessories you no longer wear to sell them.
🛍️ Get style advice from other women or personal shoppers.
☕ Enjoy coffee and conversation in a friendly, uplifting atmosphere.
📚 Bring and swap books.
💬 Meet women-owned small businesses and discover new favourites.

If successful, we plan to hold four events a year — one for each season: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Date and venue to be confirmed, but one thing’s for sure — it’s going to be a celebration of women, confidence, and conscious living.
