WalkNTalk Women
How it started.
At the end of September 2024, I was procrastinating and didn’t want to walk alone. So, on a whim, I posted in a local Colchester Facebook group to ask if any other women fancied joining me for a walk. I expected maybe one or two replies—but the response blew me away. Within days, I was chatting with dozens of women who, just like me, wanted company, conversation, and a reason to get moving.
From an Idea to a Community.
To keep things organised, I quickly set up a private Facebook group and began planning walks from different locations, on different days, and at different times. I downloaded a route planner app (I didn’t know the local area all that well back then!) and soon scheduled our first walk. The group grew rapidly—women inviting friends, sharing posts, and joining in. It was clear something special was starting to form.
The first walk.
On Monday 7th October 2024, I walked to the meeting point feeling nervous and unsure if anyone would actually show up. But when I turned the corner, 18 women were already there, waiting to walk. I was completely overwhelmed—in the best way. We walked, we talked, we laughed, and something shifted that day. We weren’t just walking; we were connecting.
What We Offer Now.
Fast forward 18 months, and we now offer 7 regular weekly walks across Colchester and surrounding areas — each with its own route, pace, and personality.
Alongside our walks, we’ve created a range of ways for women to connect in a way that suits them. Our weekly CoffeeNChat offers a slower pace and a chance to sit, talk and get to know others in a relaxed, welcoming space.
We’ve also introduced CreateNChat for those who enjoy getting creative while chatting, as well as our monthly BooksNBanter group, where conversation flows just as easily as the pages. For something a little different, we run friendly bowling sessions and fun, inclusive quiz nights — all designed to bring women together, regardless of confidence or experience.
Everything we offer is built around connection, community and creating a space where everyone feels comfortable to come along as they are.
What We Stand For.
WalkNTalk is open to all women over 18 — regardless of age, ability, or background. Whether you’re feeling confident or a little unsure, you are always welcome just as you are. There’s no pressure to keep up, no expectations to be a certain way, and no need to explain yourself.
We believe in creating a space that feels safe, supportive and genuinely inclusive. Our walks are gentle and led with care — we move at the pace of the group, making sure no one is left behind, and we always pause if someone needs a breather. It’s not about distance, speed or fitness levels, but about simply getting outside and taking that first step.
Everything we offer is built around connection. Whether it’s walking side by side, chatting over a coffee, getting creative, or joining in with a relaxed social activity, the focus is always on helping women feel comfortable, included and part of something.
This isn’t about performance — it’s about movement, mental wellbeing, and meaningful connection. We’re here if you need a boost, some company, a sense of belonging, or simply a gentle reason to step outside and feel a little more like yourself again.
Looking Ahead.
We’ve grown into a thriving, supportive community, and what started as a simple idea has quickly become something much bigger. Alongside our regular walks, we now offer community litter picks, a women-only book club, a weekly craft session, a singing group, and informative talks on menopause and perimenopause — all designed to support both wellbeing and connection.
As we continue to grow, we’re expanding our social evenings, organising more beach walks, and creating even more opportunities for women to come together in ways that feel comfortable and accessible. We’re always listening, learning, and shaping what we offer around what our community needs.
Looking ahead, our focus is on reaching more women, building stronger partnerships within the local area, and continuing to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and included. We want WalkNTalk to be something women can rely on — a consistent, welcoming presence in their lives.
This is just the beginning — we’re building something meaningful, and we’re doing it together, one step at a time.
